CHS cheerleaders head to state competition after securing region championship

After claiming its 10th consecutive region championship title over the weekend, the Carrollton High School competitive cheerleading squad is gearing up for the Georgia High School Association state championship competition on Nov. 19 in Macon.

Because of the ongoing pandemic, last year’s competition was held in February of this year. The team clinched the state title and hopes to bring home another one this week.

“As a coach, I feel very good and confident moving into the GHSA state championship competition,” said CHS cheerleading coach Brionna Lannom. “The athletes are prepared for the big stage and are ready to compete at a high level. The team has worked so hard this season and I am very excited to watch them perform in Macon on Friday.”

Lannom also noted that the team’s region championship win last weekend is a huge accomplishment for the program.

“Bringing home the 10th consecutive region title was a huge win for our program, team and me as head coach,” she said. “This winning streak has stretched through three head coaches, and I am very thankful to continue that tradition. The pressure was strong but the girls answered the challenge with their best performance and score of the year!”

This is Lannom’s first year as head coach of the competitive cheerleading squad.

The GHSA state competition is at the Macon Centreplex on Nov. 19. The Trojans will take the mat during the 3 p.m. session.
