Carrollton quarterback Julian Lewis passed for his 100th career touchdown as the Trojans cruised to a 35-7 win Friday night.
Carrollton head coach Joey King said simply, “I’m thankful for every one of them.”
Lewis finished the night with 274 yards passing for four touchdowns, with his main target being junior receiver Ryan Mosley, who had 107 yards and three touchdowns.
“Ryan’s a workhorse,” said King. “He comes to work every day, works on his craft, and when his number was called, he made the play every time tonight. That’s what good players do, and he’s definitely a good player.”
The Trojans started the game establishing the run game with a healthy dose of handoffs to Farmer. With the Columbia defense keyed in on the run game, Lewis dropped back and found Ryan Mosley on a slant.
Mosley broke through a pair of tacklers for a 24-yard touchdown to put Carrollton up 7-0 and give Lewis his 100th touchdown pass.
Columbia got past midfield on their first drive on a few quarterback runs, but the Trojan defense closed the Eagles’ first drive on a fourth-and-two stop.
Carrollton picked up where they left off and stomped down the field. Lewis found A.J. McNeil on a 13-yard fade in the end zone to go up two scores, 14-0, with 4:28 left in the first quarter.
The Trojan offense hit one of the few bumps of the night at the beginning of the second quarter, getting stopped at the goal line.
Carrollton was missing a few normal starters along the offensive line, but other than the goal line stop and a pair of sacks, the unit put together a solid performance.
“Kweli Fielder started at tackle for us as a freshman,” said King. “He’s going to be a really good football player for us around here. That will be a name that you need to know.”
King also mentioned Mike Thomas as someone who plugged into the offensive line to help with the effort up front.
After the goal line stop, the Trojan defense stepped up with an interception by Shamar Arnoux, setting up another touchdown pass from Lewis to Mosley, who carried Eagle defenders into the end zone. Carlos Hernandez’s extra point made it 21-0.
Carrollton’s defense forced another turnover on a fumble forced by Zelus Hicks and recovered by C.J. Gamble.
That set up a 20-yard pass to Peyton Zachary and a one-yard touchdown run for Farmer, putting Carrollton up 28-0 as the teams hit the locker room.
The Eagles and Trojans exchanged punts to begin the second half, but Carrollton finally got going on offense again on their next possession. Lewis threw a 40-yard deep ball to Mosley as the last score before the second string took the field with the game out of reach, 35-0, going into the fourth quarter.
Columbia added a late touchdown against Carrollton’s second-team defense near the end of the game on an 18-yard run by Nishan Hillman.
Carrollton (2-0) will be back at home against Rome next Friday.
