Carrollton High School’s football team did not even have to play a game on Friday to move up in Maxpreps’ national rankings, as the Trojans moved up one place to the No. 6 spot after a bye week.
The Trojans’ improvement resulted from a game last Friday that saw the top two teams in the nation — Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) and St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Cali.) — face off in what turned out to be not much of a contest.
Mater Dei came away with a 59-14 win over St. John Bosco, leaving no doubt who the number-one team would be moving into this week’s rankings.
St. John Bosco fell all the way to No. 8, while the teams between two and eight all moved up one spot.
In the state of Georgia, 5A school Milton remains the top-ranked team in the national rankings, moving up to No. 2, while Carrollton is the second highest at No. 6.
Since they are in different classifications, Milton and Carrollton will not have to see one another this season, but there is another 6A rival the Trojans may see down the line creeping toward the nation’s top ten.
Buford maintained their spot as the No. 12 team in the nation according to Maxpreps and the third-highest ranked team from Georgia. It is also important to not Buford and Milton played in the first game of the season, and it was just a three-point win for Milton, 13-10.
Both Carrollton and Buford have important region games coming up this Friday.
Carrollton (9-0) travels to take on Douglas County (8-1) which is currently just outside the nation’s top 25, currently ranked No. 28.
Buford (8-1) will be at home this Friday in region play against Mill Creek (7-2) which is ranked No. 85 in the country.
Should they both make it out of their respective sections of the bracket, Carrollton and Buford would face off in the class 6A semifinals on Dec. 6.
