Carrollton captured its third-consecutive region championship on Friday, besting Douglas County, 49-28.
The running backs were the stars of the show for the Trojans. Kimauri Farmer scored four of Carrollton’s seven touchdowns in the win, rushing for 151 yards and three touchdowns and also running in a 37-yard screen pass, while Messiah Satterwhite rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns.
Carrollton’s kickoff unit got things trending in the Trojans’ favor to start the game, pinning Douglas County deep in their own territory.
The Trojan defense forced a three and out, and the offense took advantage.
Julian Lewis found Kimauri Farmer on a slip screen out of the backfield for a 37-yard touchdown, putting the Trojans ahead 7-0 with 7:34 left in the first quarter.
A turnover on downs inside Carrollton territory led to the Trojans second scoring drive of the night, capped with another score by Farmer. The running back took it on the ground that time from seven yards out.
The extra point missed but Carrollton led 13-0.
Douglas County’s first score of the game came on a perfectly-timed play call.
Carrollton’s defense dialed up a corner blitz, and the Tigers threw a screen to that side of the field, leaving a running lane wide open for an 85-yard catch and run by Aaron Gregory.
The Tigers nearly scored on another miscue by the Trojans, as Douglas County recovered a Zion Cooley fumble near midfield. The Tigers drove all the way for a fourth and seven play deep in Carrollton territory, but Kadan Spratling came up with a key interception in the front of the end zone.
Carrollton had their own important fourth down on the ensuing possession, as two consecutive penalties turned a 4th and 11 into a first and goal situation.
Cooley made up for the earlier fumble with a four-yard touchdown catch one play later, and Carrolton had a two score lead again, 20-7.
Douglas County consumed the remaining minute and a half of the first half, ending with a quarterback sneak for a one-yard touchdown, and it was 20-14 at halftime.
The Trojans were pinned inside their five-yard line on an unusual kickoff, but Carrollton went the length of the field, leaning on the run game of Farmer and Messiah Satterwhite.
Satterwhite punched in a one-yard touchdown to make it a 27-14 game.
But a 30-plus yard pass to Gregory set the Tigers to collect a one-yard touchdown rush of their own, and it was 27-21.
Carrollton’s offense was unfazed.
A.J. McNeil set the Trojans up with a long kickoff return near midfield, and a 43-yard pass from Lewis to Caleb Hudson set up a powerful four-yard touchdown run, Farmer’s third time finding pay dirt on the night.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Farmer added on another rushing touchdown for the Trojans, breaking away with a spin move, giving Carrollton a 49-21 lead.
Douglas County added a late touchdown, but the Trojans were able to hand the ball off to Satterwhite enough times to run rest of the clock off the fourth quarter.
The Trojans will await their first-round playoff opponent.
