ACWORTH, GA. — For the third consecutive year, the Carrollton High School boys and girls cross country teams are region champions, following strong performances at the GHSA sectionals meet at Allatoona Creek Park on Saturday, Nov. 2.
This marked the first time in GHSA history that a sectional meet was held, with region champions determined based on race results rather than through a separate region-only meet. Only the top 12 teams from the meet advanced to the GHSA championships.
The boys finished fifth out of 26 teams, led by freshman Dash Brackin, who placed third in the meet and was the individual region champion. Freshman Camp Jennings placed 13th overall and second in the region, while freshman Drew Woznicki finished fourth in region and 41st overall.
The girls battled to a ninth-place finish out of 24 teams, led by senior Allison Batts, who placed second in the region and 33rd overall. Sophomore Blythe Browning and senior Emily Whipple also helped pace the Trojans with top-50 finishes.
Head coach Parker Nail was delighted with the performances of his runners this past weekend.
“I am so proud of our teams for the way they ran at sectionals, Nail said. “Both teams are setting themselves up for a strong finish at home this week at the state meet. It is important to send our seniors out well while giving our underclassmen a championship racing experience.”
Carrollton City Schools will once again host the GHSA state cross country championships beginning on Friday, Nov. 8, and concluding on Saturday, Nov. 9. The Trojans will compete on Saturday, with the boys running at 9:30 a.m., followed by the girls at 10:15 a.m.
