CARROLLTON, GA. — The Carrollton High School boys and girls cross country teams capped off an impressive season on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) state meet.
The boys placed fourth out of 24 teams, making the podium after narrowly missing it last season. Their success was bolstered by four freshmen running in their first championship meet, all finishing in the top 60. Dash Brackin led the way with a runner-up finish in 16:04.59. Camp Jennings placed 18th, scoring critical points for the team, while Stephen Woznicki and Drew Woznicki secured 51st and 59th, respectively. Senior leader Braven Davis ran his final race in a Trojan uniform, finishing 48th.
The girls battled to an 11th-place finish out of 24 teams, led by sophomore Blythe Browning, who placed 53rd overall. Seniors Allison Batts, MaryPayton Rogers, Jaylyn Rooks, and Emily Whipple capped their careers with top-80 finishes. These four end their high school careers with three consecutive region titles and three top-15 finishes in Georgia’s largest classification.
Head Coach Parker Nail was excited about the team’s performance and the program's future.
“I’m so proud of our girls finishing above their season ranking, and I am thrilled that our boys rallied together to pick up a podium spot,” Nail said. “We are thankful for the seniors and the leadership they have provided this season, and we are all extremely excited to see what the future holds for our program.”
