CARROLLTON, GA — The National Federation of High Schools recognized its coaches of the year for the 2023–2024 school year on Monday, Dec. 16, at the GHSA football championships. Carrollton High School gymnastics coach Nicki McGovern was among those honored.
Coach McGovern has led the gymnastics program since its inception in 2003. She is in her 32nd year of teaching at Carrollton City Schools and her 39th year in education. This past season, the CHS gymnastics program finished fourth at the GHSA State Championships, and it has finished fourth or better for eight consecutive years.
“This is an incredible honor and truly humbling,” McGovern said. “Building this gymnastics program from the ground up has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. I'm incredibly thankful for all of the athletes I've coached and the dedicated coaches I've worked alongside over the years. I'm grateful for the unwavering support from our school and the entire Carrollton community."
Paul Fitz-Simons, Carrollton High School athletic director, praised McGovern’s achievements.
“Coach McGovern is an exceptional coach and an even better person. Her dedication to athletes is truly commendable,” he said. “This well-deserved recognition is a testament to her hard work, impact on our program, and the positive influence she has on the lives of our female athletes. We are incredibly proud of Coach McGovern and excited about the upcoming season.”
