SHARPSBURG, GA — The Carrollton High School girls basketball team captured the Region 2-AAAAAA championship Thursday with a 70-39 victory over Westlake at East Coweta High School.
The Trojans jumped out to an 18-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and expanded their advantage in the second quarter, heading to halftime up 37-8. On the defensive side, the team stifled Westlake’s first-team all-region guard, London Vanarsdale, limiting her to just five points on the night.
Miyah Holmes led the Trojans and all scorers with 15 points, while Daija Preston added 12.
“I'm so proud of our girls," head coach Shon Thomaston said. “They came out and played with incredible energy and focus. This was a total team effort and a great championship win for our program. It’s time to lock in now and prepare for the GHSA playoffs one game at a time.”
The Trojans will host Collins Hill in the first round of the GHSA State Playoffs on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 6:00 p.m. Tickets will be available for purchase via GoFan or at the gate for $10.
