Carrollton High School is set to host its fourth annual Ladies Football Clinic on Wednesday, June 25 with all proceeds benefitting the “Starting in Style” program that helps provide new back-to-school clothing for students in need.

“We’ve never made a penny off of this,” Carrollton head football coach Joey King said at a Carrollton Kiwanis meeting in May. “The meal is donated, we have a raffle and drawings, the door prizes are donated, the t-shirts are donated, and we pick a local charity every year to give the money back to.”

King said the past three years, they have raised approximately $6,500-$6,800 for local charities like the Chase the Victory Foundation and Partners Advancing Student Success (PASS) along with Starting in Style, which will now be the benefitting charity for two years in a row.

“We’ve had the opportunity to give back to the community in two ways,” King said. “Pouring into these ladies that football oftentimes overlooks and also giving back to the community that does so much for us.”

King outlined some of the activities they typically go through during the clinic.

“We go through a Football 101 course — teach them what the game is, how many people are on the field, what we’re trying to do on offense and defense,” King said. “We feed them a nice dinner after it. They get a tour of our facilities. They take pictures in helmets and shoulder pads — brand new helmets and shoulder pads, not stinky ones. We go on the field and we do a six-station rotation of just some basic football work.”

Participants may approach the clinic in different ways.

“Some of them compete and get after it, and some of them just watch and listen,” King said. “Either one of those is fine.”

The event is open to ladies ages 15 and older. Registration costs $40 and is available by scanning the QR code on the Trojan Athletics Facebook or Instagram pages.

The clinic will be held at Carrollton High School on Wednesday, June 25 from 6-8 p.m.
