CARROLLTON, GA — A new turf field and locker room have given Carrollton High School’s softball program a new home, thanks to a recent renovation that provides a first-class facility designed to enhance the student-athlete experience while also creating additional physical education space.

The upgraded complex features a modern turf surface from North Georgia Turf, providing consistent playing conditions and reducing game cancellations due to weather. Complementing the new field is a locker room that offers ample space for players to prepare for each game.

The facility will also be used for Carrollton Middle School physical education classes and spring sports programs, providing a versatile space for practice and instruction. These upgrades ensure the field and locker rooms will be utilized year-round.

CHS Head Softball Coach Cali Barron said the improvements have immediately elevated the experience for the program.

“I am so thankful to coach at a place that invests in all of our programs and students,” said Barron. “The upgrades have already had a significant impact this season, allowing us to play without cancellations despite the weather. We have the best facilities, hands down. There’s nothing better than being a Trojan.”

Assistant Superintendent of Facilities and Operations Craig George praised the project as a valuable addition to the campus.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to complete projects like this,” said George. “The renovated facility is a tremendous addition to our campus, benefiting not only our softball athletes but also physical education classes and spring sport athletes. It demonstrates our commitment to providing first-class facilities for every student on campus.”

The project was funded by the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST), a 1-cent sales tax renewed by voters through a referendum every five years. ESPLOST allows schools to invest in facilities, technology, safety and transportation, addressing both aging infrastructure and the demands of community growth.

The upgrades mark a new chapter for the program, which is off to a 8-0 start on the season, it's strongest since 2012. The Trojans have outscored their opponents 94-27 through the first eight games.
