Carrollton Trojan softball took Monday’s cross-coverage game in dramatic fashion with a 6-5 walk-off win over Villa Rica at home.
The Lady Trojans were down 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Kylei Taylor hit a single into center field, scoring the two winning runs.
Brianna Harley collected three hits in four at bats in the win. Harley hit singles in the first, fifth and seventh innings.
Villa Rica set the tone early and got on the board in the first inning when Parker Harrison homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Carrollton captured its first lead of the afternoon, 3-2, in the bottom of the first when Kaitie Thornton doubled to center field, Harley singled to left field and Kylei Taylor doubled to center field, all scoring one run apiece.
The Trojans then added one run in the second as first baseman Carly Jane Jordan singled to center field, making it a 4-2 game.
Harrison continued to produce runs for Villa Rica’s offense. In the third inning, Harrison hit an RBI double to cut the lead down to 4-3. In the top of the fifth, the Lady Wildcats took back the lead. Harrison scored on a passed ball, and Aila Kent gave Villa Rica the lead, 5-4, with a line-drive single into center field.
Maycie Guest led things off in the circle for Carrollton and gave up seven hits and five runs (four earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking three.
Helaina Magistro stepped in the circle first for Villa Rica and allowed four hits and three runs (two earned) over one inning, striking out one and walking none.
Khloe Norton threw two and one-third innings of shutout ball for the Trojans in relief. The reliever allowed one hit, striking out two and walking one.
Carrollton Varsity Trojans amassed 12 hits in the game. Harley and Jordan each collected three hits to lead the way.
Harrison led Villa Rica with three runs batted in, going 2-for-3 on the day. Sophia Plagemann led Villa Rica in hits with three hits in four at bats.
Carrollton (13-2) was scheduled to be on the road at Westlake in region play on Tuesday before heading to Cedartown in non-region action on Thursday.
Villa Rica (12-8) was set to be at home on Tuesday in region play against Lithia Springs before another home region game on Thursday against Alexander.
