Nearing postseason play, Carrollton’s varsity basketball teams swept Chapel Hill in region play on senior night Tuesday with the girls team winning 71-27 and the boys winning 63-53.

For the girls team, the win helped keep the Lady Trojans in a tie for first place in the region standings with a 21-2 overall record and a 6-1 record in region play.

On that side, the region will likely come down to Carrollton and Westlake, as both teams share the same overall record and have split the head-to-head region series during the regular season.

As for the boys, this win marks an important step forward, as Chapel Hill is the second place team in the region while Carrollton sits in fourth place. Places 2-4 are up for grabs as the season winds down with Chapel Hill (4-3) in second, East Coweta (3-3) in third and Carrollton (3-4) in fourth.

GIRLS GAME

It was a balanced team effort for Carrollton as the Lady Trojans systematically picked apart Chapel Hill in a runaway victory.

Kaliyah Oliver led Carrollton with 18 points, but teammates Mya Jones and Faith Green were not far behind with 17 and 16 points, respectively.

Junior Zuri Quintyne also approached double figures with eight points.

It was a bit of a slow start for the Lady Trojans as they trailed 2-0 for a stretch in the first quarter, but Oliver got things rolling and ended the first quarter with six points, helping Carrollton to a 17-9 lead.

The second quarter looked very similar to the first, with Carrollton outscoring Chapel Hill 17-7 as Jones and Oliver found a groove. The Trojans led 34-16 at the half.

Jones knocked down a pair of threes in the third quarter to supplement Green’s most productive quarter of the night, and Carrollton scored 17 points yet again to double up on the Panthers with a 51-25 advantage heading into the fourth.

Seven different players contributed to a 20-point fourth quarter for Carrollton to put the game to bed.

BOYS GAME

Despite several attempts at a comeback for the visiting Panthers, Carrollton stayed in control for the majority of the game to eventually come away with a double digit win.

Carrollton saw solid production from its starting five as well as important contributions off the bench.

Two starters got into double figures, as Kamaree Mays led the way with 16 and Noah Piquette had 13. Peyton Moore ended the night with nine, while Dylan Pless added on eight.

Off the bench, sophomore Urhiyah George had seven points all in the second quarter, and freshman Rhylan Ellison hit two three pointers in the second half.

Carrollton held just a two point lead at the end of the first quarter but began to break away in the second, heading into halftime with a 28-22 cushion.

The Trojans stretched that lead all the way to double figures, 36-26, with three minutes left in the third quarter, but Chapel Hill answered to make it two-score game, 42-38, heading into the fourth.

From there, however, the Trojans outscored the Panthers 17-9 to build their biggest lead of the game, 59-47. Chapel Hill later hit a key three pointer to make it a 61-50 game, but there was not enough time left on the clock for the Panthers.
