A coach with a wealth of knowledge and experience in gymnastics is stepping into a new coaching role at Carrollton High School.

Trojan alum Latoya Hudson has been named co-head coach of the Carrollton High School gymnastics program. Hudson is a 1996 graduate of CHS and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia. For more than a decade, she has taught sixth-grade math in the district and has been Coach Nikki McGovern’s leading assistant.

Although CHS didn't have an official gymnastics program while Hudson was in high school, she competed for years through the recreation department. Hudson's gymnastics career was an impressive one. She qualified for the Georgia regional team twice and competed across the southeast. She was also a member of the University of Georgia cheerleading team in college.

Hudson said she has used her experiences to help athletes over the years.

“I love gymnastics and believe it's one of the most mentally and physically demanding sports there is. I'm so grateful for the time I've spent with the Carrollton Gymnastics program, and I am excited about the upcoming season. I am looking forward to seeing our gymnasts compete. I am so excited to be named co-head coach to learn alongside coach Nicki McGovern, who is the best in the business.”

Coach McGovern has led the gymnastics program since its inception in 2003. She is in her 31st year teaching at CCS and her 38th year in education.

“Coach Hudson has been an essential part of our program's success over the years,” McGovern said. “She was a phenomenal athlete and gymnast who has become an even better coach and leader of young ladies. It is an honor to work alongside her.”

CHS Athletic Director Paul Fitz-Simons said Hudson is a great leader and is essential to the program's growth.

“We are so excited to have Coach Hudson take this next step and continue to help lead the gymnastics program. Coach is a dedicated Trojan who strives for excellence in everything she does. She and Coach McGovern will continue to be a fantastic team who give our gymnasts the best opportunity to be successful.”

Coach Hudson is married to Pastor Tot Hudson, and they have three sons: Caleb, a freshman at CHS; Josh, a sixth-grader at CMS; and Micah, who is two years old.

CHS has named assistant gymnastics coach Latoya Hudson as co-head coach for the 2024 season.
