Mount to lead Trojan volleyball

A new head coach with deep experience in the sport of volleyball will take over the program at Carrollton High School following the resignation of Lauren Sanders, who left the post to focus on her teaching career and ongoing graduate studies.

With the upcoming season only a month away, Cameron Mount, who already works for CHS as a school counselor,  will assume the head coaching responsibilities immediately. CHS Athletic Director Paul Fitz-Simons said Mount has an extensive background in volleyball as a player and a coach and predicts the transition will be seamless.

“Coach Mount played volleyball all through high school and as a collegiate athlete at UCLA with the team capturing a national title during his years there,” said Fitz-Simons. “Following graduation, he played professionally in Portugal and when he returned home, he coached volleyball at the high school and club levels.”

Fitz-Simons also noted Mount’s role as a guidance counselor will serve him well as a coach.

“Coach Mount has already developed strong relationships with many of our players in his role as a school counselor,” he said. “We expect great things from him.”

Fitz-Simons noted Sanders’ short, but successful, tenure with the program produced back-to-back region championships in 2019 and 2020 and two state play-off appearances. “We are grateful for her impact on our program and wish her the very best,” he said.
