CARROLLTON, GA. — Carrollton High School has named veteran coach Kenny Edwards as the new head coach of the Trojans boys basketball program. Edwards brings a wealth of experience and a strong record of success to the team.
Edwards, who has spent more than two decades coaching in the West Georgia area, will take the helm for the 2025-26 season, pending expected board approval this month. He will succeed Coach Don Bray, who announced earlier this year that he will step down to focus on developing young athletes at the middle school level.
"I am honored to join the Trojan Nation and lead the Carrollton High School basketball program," Edwards said. "Carrollton basketball has a very rich history of success and an unmatched fan base of supporters. I look forward to continuing to foster a strong connection with the community and developing our players into successful individuals, both on and off the court."
Edwards is set to begin his 26th season in the coaching profession with the Trojans this winter. He began his head coaching career with the West Georgia Technical College women’s basketball team in 2009, compiling a 100-48 record. In five seasons, he took the Lady Knights to the NJCAA tournament twice, and they never had a losing season.
From the college ranks to high school, Edwards accepted the Central High School boys basketball job in March 2018. He led the Lions to a 125-60 record, and during that time, the Lions made the playoffs the past five seasons. He has also developed and helped 17 players continue their careers at the collegiate level.
CHS Athletic Director Elizabeth Sanders said that Coach Edwards is the right fit for the job.
"We are excited to welcome Coach Edwards to the Trojan family. His leadership, experience, and commitment to developing student-athletes make him a tremendous asset to our program, and we look forward to the positive impact he will have on our players both on and off the court.” Sanders said. “We appreciate Coach Bray’s dedication to the program and are grateful for his continued role in shaping young athletes at the middle school level."
A native of Albertville, Alabama, Edwards earned an associate degree from Snead State Community College while playing basketball for the Parsons. He played for the Gamecocks at Jacksonville State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree and is currently completing his master’s degree. Edwards and his wife, April, have two children: Claire (15) and Harper (10).
Kenny Edwards has been named the 19th head coach of the Carrollton High School boys basketball program. He brings a 225-108 overall coaching record and a history of success to the Trojans.
