CARROLLTON, GA — The Carrollton High School basketball teams earned important region wins this past Friday night over the Campbell Spartans. With the region tournament upcoming, both teams are beginning to hit their stride.

The Carrollton Lady Trojans came out of the gate slowly, making just one field goal and trailing 10-5 after the first quarter. Senior Cecelia Spencer kept the Trojans afloat during the second quarter, scoring eight points yet the Lady Trojans still trailed at halftime 22-17. A switch was flipped in the second half as the Lady Trojans outscored the Spartans 32-18 for a 49-39 victory. Freshman Kimaya Jones-Scarborough led the way with 15 points and Cecelia Spencer finished with 12 points.

The Carrollton boys were looking to avenge a 63-57 loss to the Spartans earlier this year and that they did. The Trojans came out firing on all cylinders with a couple of Keshaun Pace 3-pointers and some rim-rocking dunks by Caleb Odom; they found themselves leading at the half 43-20. Although the second half was an offensive struggle, the Trojans held firm to get the critical region win 58-49. Caleb Odom led the Trojans with 19 points to go along with six dunks.

Both teams will travel to Pebblebrook Tuesday for the final region game of the regular season. Girls tip at 6:00pm, followed by the boys game at 7:30pm. The region tournament will take place Tuesday, Feb. 14 through Friday, Feb. 17 at Westlake High School.
