CARROLLTON, GA —The Carrollton High School softball team dominated the field once again, showcasing their skills in a 7-0 victory over Chapel Hill Wednesday night. The Trojans not only clinched another victory but also honored dedicated faculty and staff with a celebration before the game.

Each Trojan softball player selected a Carrollton City Schools faculty or staff member to honor. Those recognized had the opportunity to participate in pregame warm-ups by, forming handshake lines with the players, fielding ground and fly balls, and throwing the ceremonial first pitch. 

Head Coach Cali Barron emphasized the significance of faculty and staff appreciation night for the softball team.

“Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night means a lot to our program,” Barron said. “It is a time when we get to celebrate people who deserve all of the recognition because of what they do for students on a daily basis. It is evident of the positive impact those teachers have had on our girls. It takes a village, and we have the best one.”

As for the game, the Trojans were dominant from the beginning, thanks to Audrey Lassetter and her performance in the circle. The senior threw a complete game, allowing no runs, just two hits, and striking out four batters. Lassetter also drove in the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning, followed by an RBI ground out by Katie Thorton to make the score 2-0 heading to the 2nd inning. The Trojans scored two more in the 2nd and followed it up with one run in the 3rd with a home run by Mak Goodman. The Trojans capped the scoring off with a two-run blast by junior Amira Johnson to increase the lead to 7-0. 

Coach Barron continued to express how well the team is playing now and the excitement surrounding the program.

“I’m so proud of how the girls are competing right now,” Barron stated. “We have seen so much growth in this team over this season, and it’s really fun watching all the work they have been putting in show up during the games.”

The Trojans have won eight out of their last 10 games and have locked up the number two seed in the region tournament, which will take place at East Coweta High School on Oct. 9 and 10. The team will be back at Trojan Field on Monday night to host Alexander, with the first pitch at 5:30 p.m.
