Three members of Carrollton High School’s football team signed Division-One letters of intent at the beginning of the NCAA’s early signing period.

This included wide receiver Caleb Odom who signed with Alabama, linebacker Montreze Smith who signed with Duke, and cornerback Kelvin Hill who signed with Alabama Birmingham (UAB).

Odom, rated as a four-star recruit by multiple recruiting agencies, announced his commitment to Alabama before the 2023 season began back in mid July and has since made multiple visits to the campus.

Ranked as high as the top tight end in the 2024 cycle, the six-foot-six, 220-pound elite athlete was able to graduate early from Carrollton and early enroll at Alabama.

Early in December, Odom shut down his recruitment and was quoted by On3 Sports’ Chad Simmons as saying, “I listened to what every coach had to say. But Bama stayed in front. I can’t wait to get down and make an impact.”

Although Odom is listed as a tight end by most recruiting sites, Carrollton head coach Joey King and his staff utilized him as a wide receiver for his career with the Trojans.

Originally a Villa Rica transfer, over his two years with Carrollton Odom has stacked up 1,869 yards and 25 touchdowns receiving, including 1,121 yards and 13 touchdowns in his junior year as the Trojans made a 7A state championship appearance.

As for Smith, he has been a difference maker for the Trojans on defense for some time, playing somewhat of a hybrid safety-linebacker position. This past season, Smith led Carrollton in solo tackles with 44 and total tackles with 79, including seven tackles for a loss.

Smith appeared in all 13 games for the Trojans this year and had two forced fumbles and also made a difference on special teams with two blocked kicks. Smith is rated a three-star recruit by 247 Sports and had offers from ten other schools, including West Virginia, Appalachian State, Liberty, Boston College and others.

The UAB signee, Hill, has been one of the top cover corners in the state of Georgia, leading Carrollton with four interceptions this season. Hill also does not shy away from moving upfield and making tackles, ending the season fifth on the team in total tackles with 46 and fourth in solo tackles with 31, adding eight tackles for a loss to add to that total.

No stranger to takeaways, Hill also was tied for the team lead in forced fumbles with two on the year. Hill is also rated as a three-star recruit by 247 and held nine other offers, including those from Jacksonville State, Boston College, Liberty and others.
