A four-year starter and one of the key leaders of the Trojan Basketball program has hit a career milestone few Trojans have accomplished. O’Brien “OB” Watkins surpassed the 1,000-point mark this past week in the Tournament of Champions event at Chattahoochee High School.

O’Brien needed five points going into the contest Wednesday afternoon against Heritage-Newnan. He hit the mark quickly in the first quarter and finished the game with 18 points to lead the Trojans to a 41-39 victory. O’Brien is now the 15th Trojan in the history of the program to acheive the 1,000-point plateau, and he also has the opportunity to move up the list in many other statistical categories during the rest of the season.

Head coach Don Bray praised O’Brien and how essential he has been to the Carrollton basketball program.

“It has been an honor to coach OB over these past five seasons having coached him since his eighth-grade year,” Bray said. “Reaching the milestone of 1,000 points in your career is not easy. It takes dedication, hard work, and passion for the sport. His commitment to excellence has earned him this honor to forever be etched into Carrollton basketball history and I am thrilled to see everything he has accomplished.”

O’Brien and the Trojans will be back in action this Friday as they open up region play on the road against East Coweta. They will follow-up on Saturday with their first home game of 2024 as the team hosts New Manchester at 4:30 pm.

O’Brien “OB” Watkins has now become the 14th basketball player in school history to earn 1,000 points in his career.
