Trojan wrestling well represented at GHSA Traditional Championships

The Carrollton High School wrestling programs will be sending a large number of student-athletes to compete at the Georgia High School Association’s Traditional (Individual) Wrestling State Championships this week at the Macon Centreplex, February 15-17.

Carrollton’s boys wrestling team qualified eight competitors for the 7A tournament. By weight class these are (106) Sutton White, (126) Judah White, (132) Wesley Loftin, (138) Buck Merritt, (150) George Carden, (157) Connor Stephens, (165) Ben Cleek and (285) Jacob Levy. Levy will look to defend his state championship from last season.

As for the two-time defending state duals champions, Carrollton’s girls team qualified six competitors for state, including (130) Bailey Moore, (135) Maggie Dudley, (140) Madison Cooley, (145) Johana Mejia, (170) Sierha Lopes and (190) Journey Gray.

Both girls and boys traditional state championship tournaments will be held at the Macon Centreplex this Thursday through Saturday.

On Thursday and Friday, for boys classes 1A, 3A, 5A and 7A, weigh-in time is at 8 a.m., and for classes 2A, 4A, 6A and girls, weigh-in time is at 1 p.m. On Saturday, for all who qualify, weigh-in will be at 7 a.m. Consolation semifinals and finals are set to begin at 9:30 a.m.

State final rounds for all classes are slated to take place Saturday as soon as consolation rounds have concluded.
